Finding your soulmate from Thailand or China is an exciting journey. However, for many Singaporean gentlemen, the excitement is often mixed with anxiety about the bureaucracy. How do I bring her here? Will ICA approve the visa? Is the process complicated?
At SgAsiaMatch, our service doesn’t end when you find the right lady. We are committed to your “Happily Ever After.” We want you to have total peace of mind.
For a Singapore Citizen (SC), the process is standard and transparent. While success largely depends on your financial stability (Income Proof), following the correct steps makes the journey smooth.
Here is the roadmap to bringing your wife home legally and securely.
The Golden Rule: The Pre-Marriage LTVP Assessment (PMP)
The most common mistake couples make is rushing to register their marriage (ROM) without checking with the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) first.
ICA strongly recommends the Pre-Marriage LTVP Assessment (PMP). This is the key to a stress-free process.
Step 1: PMP Assessment (The Critical First Step)
Before you even book your ROM date, you should apply for the PMP via the ICA website.
- Purpose: This allows ICA to do a preliminary check of your financial standing and eligibility to sponsor a foreign spouse.
- Timeline: It usually takes about 4 weeks to process.
- Outcome: You will receive a Letter of LTVP Eligibility (LLE). This letter is valid for one year and essentially signals that you have a “green light” for the visa application later.
Step 2: Registry of Marriages (ROM)
Once you have your LLE in hand, you can confidently proceed to register your marriage in Singapore.
- You will file a notice of marriage.
- Complete the solemnization ceremony.
- Receive your official Marriage Certificate.
Step 3: Applying for the Long-Term Visit Pass (LTVP)
With your Marriage Certificate and your valid LLE (from Step 1), you can now formally apply for your wife’s Long-Term Visit Pass (LTVP).
- Speed: Because you already did the PMP, the processing time is significantly faster—usually completed within 6 weeks.
- Validity: For the first approval, ICA typically grants a validity of 6 months to 1 year. This is standard probation to ensure the marriage is genuine.
The Upgrade: Moving from LTVP to LTVP+
You may have heard of the LTVP+ (Plus). This is a superior pass that offers a longer validity period (usually 3 years) and healthcare/employment benefits.
How to get it? Generally, if the marriage remains stable and the husband maintains a steady income and tax record, ICA will automatically consider upgrading the pass to LTVP+ upon renewal.
- Timeline: This usually happens around the 3rd or 4th year of marriage.
The “Fast Track”: Having a Child
We understand that waiting 3 years for an LTVP+ can feel long. However, there is a joyful “accelerator” for this process.
If you and your wife have a child (a Singapore Citizen by descent), the timeline changes in your favor.
- Pregnancy: If your wife is pregnant (with medical certification), or if the child is already born, you do not need to wait 3 years.
- Immediate Benefits: Many of our clients have successfully obtained an LTVP+ immediately upon the first application or first renewal because they have a Singaporean child. This demonstrates the strongest possible commitment to building a family in Singapore.
